Why Boma Curates?

Over a year ago, I was really struggling with the fact that I loved music but I felt like I would never be able to really do anything with this passion. I didn’t think I was talented enough to be a music producer, being an audio engineer seemed dope but I didn’t have a working computer at the time so I couldn’t learn how to do that. Which also took out the idea of being a dj and with that I don’t even like parties/clubs like that so I would be super lame. I didn’t want to own a record label anymore and honestly working in the music business industry did and still makes my stomach hurt a little bit at how not fun it would be. So there I was, listening to music on my phone, making playlists based off of colors, inspired by people, feelings, events, etc...awkward. Like I was dressed up with no where to go. Deep down I knew that my outlook and love for music was a gift that the Lord had given me to share. Music is a really big deal to me and has gotten me through some tough times and in the past few years, shown me how much love the Lord has for me and His people. So I was praying and wondering if this was ever something I will be able to do “whatever that something is.” Then the Lord placed this playlist idea on my heart! This was perfect because it didn’t require any money or a fancy computer or computer program, I didn’t need to buy any music equipment or get some sort of education. This allowed me to start with what I had; myself and a gift from the Lord. So through some encouragement from my friends, I started Boma Curates! Big shout out to my friend Anjola who helped me come up with the name. Without her help, the name would have been called “Bomixes” lolololol

I’ve always been a dreamer who likes to plan. I was lacking in execution because I would over plan so much and if I saw there was a even a small chance for failure I would ditch the dream or idea. I had no idea that Boma Curates was going to be a thing. I just believed that if Jesus put an idea in my mind, He would help me carry it through and He definitely did. The Lord showed me that I shouldn’t be afraid of failure, He’s got me. That does not mean I will never fail, it means that He will carry me through that failure and it doesn’t have to negatively define me. If there is something that the Lord has placed on your heart that you’ve always wanted to do, go for it! Ask him how you can start with the resources you have. You never know what is on the other side of your doubts. And don’t be afraid of the slow grind, not everything can super happen fast, we can enjoy the process as well as the results.

It’s been a super exciting journey since starting this! I’m so thankful that you guys are enjoying the playlists and getting introduced to different songs! The feedback I gotten has been so encouraging and I’m so thankful for the support. For real, y’all have really helped me believe in myself and my gifts.

What's Next?

So, what can you look forward to in this website? This is a music blog but it won’t just be different playlists every week or month. It will be more of a holistic take on music from my point of view. I’ll go deeper into why I’m super passionate about music and why I think it’s so important in all of our lives. There will be posts and playlists for various seasons of life, music commentary, what I’m listening to and other music related things that interest me. I can't wait for you all to see what's to come!

When I read blogs, I love seeing other people's favorite things so here are some of mine!

Dilla Beat: Ahmad Impresses Me. I have listened to this so so many times and someone on YouTube looped it into a 14 minute song so I'm in love. I haven't listened to all the Dilla songs out there but since I can't stop listening to this one, it will probably be my favorite for a while lol

Albums of the moment: Handpicked by Earl Klugh. Earl is such a gifted guitarist, this album always makes me smile when I listen to it // All the People Said Amen by Matt Maher. Lately, this album has been reminding me of the Gospel and how much I need it. We never graduate from the Gospel!!

Songs of the year so far: I Choose You by Tobe Nwigwe // Ire by Adekunle Gold // Water and Dust by Cory Asbury

Instrument: Flute, Flamenco Guitar, Paino

Soundtrack: Cinderella with Whitney and Brandy. Listening to the soundtrack is like listening to the movie, I love it!

Film Score: Parent TrapThis is one of my favorite movies. Listening to the score reminds me of my childhood and I think it's cool that Alan Silvestri developed such a beautiful score for a kids movie.

Genius Deconstructed Video: The Making of Everything is Recorded's "Close but not Quite" with Richard RussellOne of my favorite things about music is listening to people talk about it. Richard Russell is a genius! (no pun intended!)
