Music Listening Habits

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking (maybe a bit too much lol) and researching the music industry, the lack of diversity in the industry, and how that has possibly affected the music I listen to. I def don’t listen to a lot of women artists and the industry is male-dominated but idk if I can blame all of my listening habits on the industry.

I always find a reason to listen to new male artists over female artists. I compare the lyrics, the style, and a lot of things to justify my reasoning but women not being like men is kind of the point, right? Man and Woman were never meant to be compared to each other like that. Instead celebrated for our unique God-given design.

So I’ve started going out of my way to listen to more woman artists and it’s actually been great and refreshing! I’m realizing that in ways it’s really good to examine the world around me and see what needs to be changed but I can’t forget that change begins with me first. This has been fun for me because I’m able to relate to some of these songs on a deeper level than the male artists I listen to which is awesome. On that note, I’m loving Natalie Lauren’s album, Handle with Care. I was even anticipating the release! It’s liberating and freeing. I’m so glad I checked it out; I have so many favorites from the album. These songs have really been reminding me it’s okay to be a woman, be human, and trust Jesus to be who He says He is in my life. I love the album and I’m thankful she stayed true to what she set out to do with it!

Favorites from Handle with Care:

  • Something Something

  • One Million Reasons

  • Back to Love

You should check out the album if you haven’t and let me know if you can relate to this topic!
